Gowanus Lowline: Connections Design Competition!

Gowanus Lowline: Connections, Gowanus by Design's inaugural design competition, is an international and open ideas competition, inviting speculation on the value of urban development of postindustrial lands, and the possibility of dynamic, pedestrian-oriented architecture that either passively or actively engages with the canal and the surrounding watershed. This competition focuses on the design of connections in and around the canal, and the residual moments that occur around these connections. These may relate to the east west crossings and/or the north south corridor that define the Canal and its uplands.

Competition Objectives
One of our objectives is to generate a discourse about urban issues that are currently relevant to the Gowanus Canal Community. The competition is designed to generate a spectrum of possible solutions.

Also providing designers with the opportunity to explore their own design sensibilities while tackling complex urban challenges. Attracting the interest of a wide range of individuals (not just those within the architectural profession) on a local and international level, and creating design grounded in the context of Brooklyn and the Gowanus Canal.
