Water_Works Opens to Standing Room Audience
Gowanus by Design’s second, annual competition exhibition, Water_Works, opened much like last year's exhibit, to a standing room audience. With competition contributors coming from 20 countries around the world and as far away as China and Croatia, we were grateful to all who not only submitted but those who braved the travel from their home countries to attend the opening. The exhibition was hosted by The Old American Can Factory in their Gowanus Institute space, which made for a perfect locale only one block from the canal.
During the opening, we were also fortunate to have a visit and talk from City Council Member Brad Lander, and representatives from Council Member Stephen Levin's office stopped by. Both of them share Gowanus by Design's vision of taking progressive ideas like those developed in the competition to the City government as a way of better framing the parameters by which our community is zoned and developed.
Special thanks to Soho Reprographics and Whole Food for providing material support to the exhibition. Thanks also to the hard working Gowanus by Design team - Brian, Paul, Eric, Ashley, Eymund, Mike and Amy!
