Jury Convenes to Review Water_Works Competition Submissions

On Friday February 1st, the competition jury convened at the Center for Architecture in Manhattan to review Gowanus by Design’s latest competition titled “Water_Works.”  The competition focused on site-specific solution(s) that simultaneously explored water’s role in recreation, quotidian uses, and in contaminated urban environments, and demonstrate how a new community center and retention facility represent a more progressive view of our city's infrastructure. The jury narrowed their focus on projects that explored these challenges and proposed considering a stronger community node within an area that is slowly establishing its identity as a viable mixed-use urban neighborhood. The competition jury consisted of  Richard Plunz, David J. Lewis, Robert M. Rogers, Andrew Simons and Joel Towers. With over 150 entries, the jury had their hands full and spent much of the day discussing the architectural, technological and ecological merits of each project.
